Our History
Founded in 1951, Simon Lever is rooted in trust, integrity, and excellence—values first exhibited by our founder and namesake, who lived out our core values long before they were formalized.
About Our Founder
Born in Lithuania, Simon Lever came to the United States in 1938 at 18 years old. While waiting for his family to follow, he lived with his uncle in York, attending night school to learn English. Before gaining citizenship, Simon was drafted into the army and called to serve in World War II. In 1945, after being medically discharged from the military, Lever learned his parents, brother, and sister had been killed as victims of the Holocaust.
Despite enduring devastating tragedy, Simon continued building a rich life and career, going on to begin his accounting career in Philadelphia. As a man of deep faith, Simon and his wife, Johanna, decided to open a practice of their own in Lancaster County after observing the shared values between Lever’s Jewish faith and Lancaster’s altruism. It was always his goal to establish a business where he could serve with integrity and cultivate relationships that run deep.
“I’ve had my ups and downs. I’ve had illnesses, I’ve lost my family. All these things compel one to do something, not just for yourself, but for whoever you can.” –Mr. Lever
When Lever retired in 1995 after 45 years of service, he had established a firm that would far outlive him. He equipped his team, instilling qualities of leadership, strength, and the determination to serve above all else. Following in Simon Lever’s example, the firm has always strived to make the lives of its clients and employees better and more fulfilling.
Today, more than 70 years later, the firm continues to embody Simon’s vision: deeply engaged teams, a culture of care, and advisors who are both trusted and forward-focused. Our longevity is rooted in the values he lived every day—humility, perseverance, and a spirit of service.
