Using technology to get help from the Internal Revenue Service just got easier.

The IRS recently announced the release of its free online tax tools, including the Interactive Tax Assistant, which allows taxpayers to get the help they need when they need it.

The Interactive Tax Assistant uses a series of questions to take taxpayers through the tax preparation process, answering questions about tax credits, deductions, and general filing questions. Taxpayers get the same answers they would if they had called and spoken to an IRS represented over the phone. This new service allows taxpayers to avoid having to call the IRS and risk long hold times. Plus, they can print out the answers for their records.

To access the Interactive Tax Assistant—and other useful IRS tools—click on the Tools page or the IRS Services Guide for a list of the many features and applications offered by IRS.gov.
